These are excellent tips. I have had every single on of these. The clients that want to know everything you do are the most annoying. The time it takes to try and give them an idea really rakes up. Plus some only want to know so they can fire you and try it for themselves.

I hear ya Jeff. It’s almost unbelievable, how many potential clients think they are as knowledgeable or even more so than us sometimes. It would be like me walking into my chiropractor and telling him that his technique isn’t the best way to relieve my pain, or giving my dentist some pointers on my wisdom tooth extraction. Dealing with these types is probobly the most frustrating part about this business.

The guy I talked to tonite thought that his Yahoo Sitebuilder ~barf~ was “just as important” to Google as my website was since he had the same PageRank as me – ROFL.
This was even after I showed him a couple of two word, top 10 seo keywords I’m ranking in Google for.

Great article, Jeff. You summarized thoroughly and sharply the common challenges facing SEO clients. You do illustrate one common issue about clients in they have no idea how long page ranking takes or why it takes so long. They often equate the speed of communication possible through online as applicable to all other aspects of the web business… the sort of “if you build it they will come.” Well it worked for Ray Kinsella in “Field of Dreams” but not in the real world.
